Can salmon be used to quantify small RNAs?

Hi,

I have managed to use salmon without any problem to analyse RNA-Seq (transcriptome) reads. However, at the moment I am trying to use it for small RNAs (microRNAs) quantification (salmon quant). I am wondering if you have any specific recommendations or reasons why salmon wouldn't be suitable to quantify microRNA data. In details, I am using reads previously mapped to annotated microRNAs (precursors and mature) using bowtie1 and now I am using salmon quant on those sam files for transcript quantification. Thanks for the help!
