Still data usage issue with speed dial

Open Avrution opened this issue 5 years ago • 8 comments

I raised this issue last year and it still seems to exist in the current build.

Having speeddial icons pulls data whenever the browser is opened. Not only does this slow things down, but it shouldn't be necessary to reach out to the internet when opening. Disable the internet connection and things are super quick.

I did a test where I opened only the browser with the speeddial as the default page. Let the browser sit for a minute and checked the data usage - about 15mb. Opened the browser with only a single google tab - took forever to load and also used 15mb of data. Reset Yuzu to default, cleared cache and repeated and it used next to 0 data.

You might want to check out why the speeddial icons/pages are doing what they do. If I recall last time I tested Yuzu opened about 75 different connections for my 35 icons.

No one else with this issue?

Even adding a single speeddial (Google) increases the data usage considerably on each open or use of the speeddial.

Seems usage is even worse on the beta - just under 27MB at IDLE

@Avrution

How did You measure data Yuzu data usage?

Made a test, via app manager killed Yuzu and cleared Yuzu -s cache, cleared AdGuard filtering log, launched Yuzu (default page is speedial with 12 icons), no Yuzu connections or dns requests, so total zero network traffic.

Checked app data usage numbers in between killing Yuzu.

Also used the app Network connections to show all the connections Yuzu made just from launching the browser to the speeddial page - stopped logging after 57 connections.

Hostnames match many of my icons, such as: ebay, craigslist, amazon, etc.

Also, just tried disabling all of the favicons, but still 27mb of data per opening/refresh

@Avrution What WebView do you use? Is this "Android System WebView" or the one built in ROM? What version?

@Avrution

With this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antispycell.connmonitor&hl=en

Installed and tested, same result, zero traffic.

Yes, with that app. Same result with two tablets and my phone.

It is at least good to hear this isn't happening for everyone.

Based on that I exported my speeddial and wiped the data for Yuzu and started it fresh with only an import of the speeddial settings - no data usage.

I spent hours setting things up when I first used the browser, so it seems maybe the issue is somewhere else in the settings or a glitch that has persisted when I moved my backup to each device.

Opening this back up as the issue constantly comes back. I can wipe all the data and import my settings/speed dial to fix the issue, but it has happened again 3 times since last closing this ticket.

Currently, I can't even load my speeddial without disabling the internet connection. Even the help page (which is local) will not open without the internet being disabled.

Still making a minimum of 23 different connections (with internet enabled) just opening the app.

I love this browser, but would love it even more if I could figure out this issue so I don't have to keep resetting and starting over again every week or two.
