Save Changes sometimes does nothing

Save Changes sometimes does nothing and shows no indication to the user that it failed (except a faster response, i.e. a successful save takes time and shows a spinner, while an unsuccessful save just flashes the screen). When refreshing the page after an unsuccessful save a relogin is required, which leads me to believe that this is an authentication issue. Either way it would be better to inform the user of failed saves or even better request the reauthentication and save the data then.

@yarl Should this have an alert dialog? For submission failures, it would be good to prominently show that to users, give them a chance to save the error message (also send a message to the feel log).

I have just hit this bug in Wiki Loves Africa, round III. This is a ranking round, and I'm on this page:

Hitting Save Round seems to do nothing (no error message). On logging out and back in again it becomes clear that the selections were not saved, and the main page incorrectly says that I have completed 0% of the round. Have replicated on two different machines - both running Firefox 58.0.2 on Mac.
