custom app list

I'd like to use the custom app list on a PR4100 with a personal app_info.xml. I'm using x64 lsattr and chattr from entware.

lsattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device While reading flags on /var/www/xml/app_info.xml

Is this because the OS is a squashfs running in ram? My workaround is to bind mount a copy of /var/www/xml on disk at /opt/var/www/xml onto /var/www/xml ... and that works. But I'd like to know why this is not necessary on the ARM mycloud nas.
