Initialising the Register with it's current value does not make a lot of sense to me. The idea using the Settings is really preserve the register for each individual setting...

I changed the design an lowered them by 0.2 mm with the new printed parts i get on side dead on the other still 0.1 mm off

It might work that way but it will break wit the idea to preserve the register for multiple SPI clients with different Settings (i.e. Register Values)

From the logic side this should work as well. Unfortunately i have no time for testing. Did you tested that case with multiple devices ?
