Convert to datatable?

Is it possible to convert kable to DT::datatable while preserving the formattings?

Turns out formattable has a as.datatable() function which converts formattable to datatable. But, this doesn't work for kable or kableExtra. I don't understand the internal differences between formattable and kableExtra, but perhaps it's possible to tweak it.
