FEATURE REQUEST: Be able to choose different board

Open tateforgey opened this issue 9 years ago • 4 comments

Currently can only look for cards on the same board. I'd love to see this mimic the "Move" menu where you can choose the board above (default would be current) so that I can easily link cards from other boards. That would be a powerful way to tie together the different boards we have in our organization.

@tateforgey that's a good idea and I appreciate the input! Putting it into our backlog.

Just to understand the use case, why is there need in your organization to interconnect different boards?

Thanks so much for getting back to me! I apologize if this is a little more detailed than you were hoping for...

We are a data warehouse group in a cancer institute. We are one team, but essentially operate as three distinct teams within a team; an Analyst team, ETL team, and Business Intelligence team. Each of the three teams has their own sprint boards in Trello where they take on stories that are specific to the development activities of their team (e.g., Analyst --> modeling data, ETL --> Informatica development, BI --> MicroStrategy reports). As you may imagine this has lead to difficulty in making sure that everyone is working to deliver the common, shared, highest priority in the most efficient way. I am now acting as a product owner and working towards establishing use cases/user stories that we can all reference. So, for instance, when we have a team meeting with all the members of our sub-teams we will review the overall user stories and discuss what progress we have made in achieving this priority. So, I want to maintain a Trello board that has a card for each of these use cases that has links to the cards in our sub-teams boards so that we can see all the different activities that we have performed as a team to realize the capability.

We are already manually inserting links, but your extension makes the process easier and gives a real feeling that the parent card is what all the children cards "roll up" to, which is the impact I'm trying to have with my team so that we focus on the business value we are delivering and not the individual tasks that each of the teams happens to be working on in any given sprint.

Thanks again for taking the time to write this extension. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. I'm happy to beta test or give feedback if that is something you want.

Thanks, Tate.

+1

Our use case is product board would link to dev and marketing boards. A product feature (Epic) would have multiple children on the other boards.
