would be nice if, while streaming, you could put the player in the notification bar for easy start/stop.

sorry, no way to do this, 2 reasons 1 i'm stuck while adding progress bar to the notification for download, but there is a class which can only do this

it's doable though for sure, we do it in the quran android while downloading the images the first time. furthermore, this is related to @wnafee's issue #8.
