EXIF.UserComment for caption

I use darktable to process the raw images. The comments are written under the EXIF.UserComment tag. The simple-photo-gallery program currently reads the ImageDescription tag for putting the captions. Can it made to read this tag in case the latter tag is empty? Better would be to have an option about which tag to use for caption.
