I suspect the problem is that ggvis isn't exporting the `group_by_` method.

Another problem is the quite inelegant code in geometry_stack.
For now, we should probably just take the ggplot2 approach - i.e. drop them, with a warning.
It's most likely to be a dplyr issue, so I'd recommend upgrading to the latest version. It's extremely unlikely that it's related to the version of rstudio.
