What is a proper way to debug earlybird + VsCode ?

For example, am I obliged to install earlybird into current switch and rerun debugging phase? Maybe I could start earlybird as a server and force VsCode to attach to existing installed of server, instead of creating a new one? Is it documented somewhere?
