Research into Trauma-Informed Care pertaining to people experiencing food insecurity

Open staceyrebekahscott opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Overview

We will need to conduct research into trauma-informed care (TIC) and how it relates to people experiencing food insecurity. Many people who are food insecure have to deal with the stress of having to decide what they pay for each month (rent, medical bills, car payments, utilities or food). They also can experience disrespect from food pantry workers, and feel shame for having to rely on free food resources rather than being able to provide food consistently for their families.

Action Items

  • [ ] Invite all FOLA to add into this issue below their points of interest / concerns / questions related to TIC
  • [ ] Schedule a discussion that includes a Q&A session with an SME and brainstorming as a group (post a Save-the-Date announcement on main FOLA slack channel
    • [ ] Explore the Trauma-Informed Care Implementation Resource Center's website
    • [ ] Compare this with research on food insecurity for overlapping themes
  • [ ] Add Trauma-Informed language recommendations to FOLA's Voice and Tone doc.

@GigiUxR Thank you for adding resources! Also, I saw that you assigned me on this issue and wanted to let you know that I unassigned myself as I don't have capacity to work on this issue right now. I mentioned this to Stacey so she didn't assign me earlier, but I don't think I had the opportunity to share with you too so just wanted to give you a heads up.

Also, it seems that the friend I mentioned, a SME in social work, has gotten very busy so unfortunately I don't think she'll be able to help with this issue anymore.

Tagging Bryan @fancyham so you're both in the loop with this!
