Unable to disable addons

Open Tencel42 opened this issue 4 years ago • 6 comments

I normally run with D912proxy on but as I'm re-doing the story with a friend I want to turn it off to avoid the crashes during some of the cinematics.

When I go into the Addon manager, select D912 proxy and hit disable, it prompts me for confirmation which I provide. But the add on does not show as "disabled."

Launching the game client confirms D912 proxy is still running. The only way I've been able to get around this is to reset to a clean install and just install the other add ons while leaving out D912x.

I had this problem on 1.2.2 as well but somehow I was able to get it to work though I don't remember what I did.

Will write this here in hopes that people who stumble across this trying to find a solution can have a workaround without removing their settings, in case a misbehaving addon is preventing them from loading into a character.

  1. Go to your game install path. For me this is D:\Guild Wars 2\
  2. Go to the addons folder (D:\Guild Wars 2\addons in my case). Copy the folder of the addon you wish to disable to another location, and delete it from the addons folder
  3. Try to launch the game and get into a character.
  4. When you want to restore the addon with your settings, simply copy the folder back to the addons folder in your game install folder.

This is imo the most important issue of the Addon Manager. I would love the manager and the quality of life it brings! But because of the frequent disables/enables that are needed to even get GW2 running after each update, the Addon Manager is practically useless if it is not possible to delete or disable addons. Manually installing stuff is more practical because of this.

https://github.com/gw2-addon-loader/GW2-Addon-Manager/pull/184 was supposed to fix this but it's more than a 1 year old PR by now
