how to donate
Hi
Please open crowdfunding or PayPal account....
I like to donate
Hi @edmunch.
First of all I want to say in my name and I think I can speak everyone contributing this project, thanks, is really nice see people is really interested on the development.
I was going to say "thanks but no" at a first, in an open community money without an objective can be a source of discord and problems, but then I had a second thought, "and if we get a target for that money?".
We are missing two important tools to improve our development, an USB analyzer and a third unit to compare results, teardown and even analyze how internal IC's are configured (a protocol analyzer for I2C and SPI would be also nice for that last point). And even if we get more money I can see more tools to refine things like a PS4 Pro for testing against differences on the protocol when used on PS4 and PS4 Pro and even certificates to create signed drivers.
So, if people is being success on kickstarter even with stupid things like "I want a potato salad" (and no, it's not a joke, a guy wanted to do a potato salad and raised 55k$), would not be a good idea to open a kickstarter and try to get these tools?
I want to see opinions from everyone, feel free to post your thoughts, this is not a thing I'm going to do in a rush until we have a feedback from the community.
So, what do you think guys? Should we launch a kickstarter to get these tools? If yes, what goals you think we should seek?
Personally I do not need any 'financial reward' for doing the project, but if people want to donate to help the project reach it's goals then thats a good thing.
The suggestion of a USB analyser is a good one, and someone mentioned usb-proxy running on Beaglebone Black. Could be an economical solution. As for a Kick-Starter, could be 'purchase bbb to make logs of PSVR USB traffic' with the logs as the deliverable. Keep it simple and easy to achieve.
For I2C/SPI analysis I'd suggest the BusPirate (have several myself) and are cheap/available, but I wouldn't suggest tearing your expensive headset apart, unless 'we' could raise enough for a sacrificial one - too much risk of it being killed.
I think the same about the money, not seeking a reward for us but if people wants to help the project then use it for tools.
I don't plan to tear up my own unit :), that's what I meant with a third unit, another headset to make these tests, not the target goal but if people donates more money than the costs of the analyzer then we can use for it.
About the beaglebone, i don't think this would be a good idea to do it our primary goal, I checked the usb proxy with bbb and it's very slow, (I described this on #25), as a resource if we want to pay this for ourselves is an optioin, but if we are starting a crowdfunding the minimum we should target is an OpenVizsla, it's cheap, near $150, we need to mount it but I have all the tools, hot air station, smd mounting table and so on.
Or maybe even better, just create tiers like everybody does, lowest tier $60 for a BBB, $150 for an OpenVizsla and $500 for a Beagle USB 12 analyzer.
i would immediately transfer 50€ for a spare psvr, usb analyser, pizza, cola .... you name it.
@edmunch Thanks a lot, with that we have nearly enough for the beaglebone!
If no one has any inconvenience I will prepare next week the Kickstarter, we will get for sure the beaglebone tier (even if I have to add these 10€ from my own money) and may be more people willing to help donates enough for an OpenVizsla (and who knows may be we get to the beagle analyzer, that would be wonderful).
Any ideas for the rewards per donation tiers? I like the idea about sending the reports as we get them for reward but we need to think about higher donations (people tend to do crazy stuff, if the crowd has donated more than 50k for a potato salad who knows how much can be raised, maybe nothing, but I prefer to be prepared before hand), may be adding people as collaborator to the project or adding a credits page or something like that.
Is there finally a kickstarter or something ?
I'd be willing to send a few coins to support this project and I'm sure many others would, too.
Where is the kickstarter dude ? :-)
