Hey guys,

So i have this multibit wallet since 2015 that is locked and my password is unknown

I've used a random generator and encrypted the wallet when power cutted down! When i rebooted my computer, obviously, the generated code was no longer present.

The wallet balance is 17 Bitcoin

I have all the needed files.

  • .wallet
  • .key

Back in the day I contacted Dave from walletrecovery, but he only had one GPU to try cracking it.

Now that we advanced this much, maybe someone is willing to try and crack my .key file.

I also have an encrypted and unecrypted wallet that uses the same password.

I offer a 5 Bitcoin bounty to whoever can crack the wallet, it's gone up quite a bit in value the last 2-3 years.

Thank you!

graphenepay avatar Dec 27 '17 11:12 graphenepay

How many characters? If it's totally random and you have no clues it's impossible after 5 or 6 characters depending on your rig. How come an unencrypted wallet has a password? What is your line of thought here? I don't follow.

pedrohrcunha avatar Dec 27 '17 13:12 pedrohrcunha

I used a random password generator website. By default it's 8 chars.

The unencrypted wallet is a backup before the wallet has been encrypted with this same password. So I have 2 wallet files, one containing 17BTC without unencrypted backup, the other is close to empty with an unencrypted backup and the encrypted wallet. Both share the same password.

graphenepay avatar Dec 27 '17 15:12 graphenepay

@graphenepay but both wallets share the same private key? Have your tried to export the private keys from the unencrypted one? I'm not sure if this could work. I'm not an expert. It's just a guess.

pedrohrcunha avatar Dec 27 '17 16:12 pedrohrcunha

@graphenepay 8 chars is not that long. I guess it's doable with a good rig. For cases that you have no guesses about the content of your PW btcrecover is not recommended. Do you know how to use John The Ripper?

If you still want to use btcrecover simply insert in the tokens.txt file: %8P

pedrohrcunha avatar Dec 27 '17 16:12 pedrohrcunha

I'll give it a shot.

To reply on your first question, no, it are seperate wallets. They don't share the same PK's, only the same encryption password.

graphenepay avatar Dec 28 '17 19:12 graphenepay

@graphenepay we have a bunch of GPUs and access to more. If you need help, let me know

rterwedo avatar Dec 28 '17 19:12 rterwedo

Help would be appreciated @rterwedo , that's why i'm offering 5BTC bounty on it.

graphenepay avatar Dec 29 '17 10:12 graphenepay

@graphenepay if you are 100% sure that this password is eight character long and totally randomized (a,1,@,etc.) then you should definetly give it a long try. You need JTR + a great rig. If you don't have it, simply offer the same contract here to the btcrecover creators, or to Dave wallet recovery services (he is totally full atm).

pedrohrcunha avatar Dec 29 '17 19:12 pedrohrcunha

@graphenepay use the info here to contact me, note it expires in a day so I don't get spammed: https://zerobin.net/?4ca2e3b84b3a9f15#AQQaHjN1X0WQo8xKOwIhhQCKJbNEIwGKrVxC216IbmQ=

Or provide your skype account, I need some more info before jumping in like an example of a random generator you used online, is it upper, lower, symbols and numbers in 8 chars?

What kind of experiment do you need to do, whether there is a social software account, we communicate in detail and communicate clearly. Because after all, it is not a small amount, so communication is better. If you don’t send me everybody, wait until you crack some people and you will take Bitcoin directly.

This is not a real wallet hash. The hash of a bitcoin wallet has a different shape. And it has a different length. Here is an example of a Bitcoin wallet hash. $ Bitcoin $ 64 $ 2ecb6691460c19de445 **************************** 6455e079e6d811da8 $ 16 $ fbf192d3baf6bb02 $ 126,145 $ 96 $ cf9a1ed320d16938822ade40046f85d5f75a54d2676e7fe1bfa9b47aed09d8dd2197dd0faf7ee96662df7930aab8ce3b $ 130 $ 04888624b8aff8358944d6167c9e2df2ff6d250013d31c66847af1e1a7e53cb1af071815d72c1f5899c0a186cce89b920685ea1d6f402a0ac3cd269b3664c6a926. This is the correct hash. It's just from the MultiBit wallet. Namely, from an encrypted private key. And it has MD5 algorithm. And as far as I know, the password for his wallet has already been found.

In the end, did they help you in this matter?

Small update

For the sake of transparency, the hash extract has been posted on this topic:

The extracted wallet hash is bWI62Y5dfKKyfnjBLeGGqPgDqVsxONCFshkkRrJF1g==

Please read this article on how this hash can be cracked without passing the actual wallet: https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover/blob/master/docs/Extract_Scripts.md#usage-for-multibit-classic

Please note that i DO NOT post my wallet address on any public forum. This has multiple reasons:

  • I don't want people selling fake wallets with my address
  • To verify who actually managed to crack it

Reputable people like @keychainx and Dave Bitcoin have the actual wallet files, they can verify it has 17.17 BTC, and equal amount of BCH.

Whoever manages to crack the hash, can leave a comment on how to contact them, together with the BTC address for the rewards.

After verification of the hash against the password, 50% of the wallet will be send to the address posted on this topic.

I'll have a go at cracking it. Can you give us any more info about the random password generator? the URL or name of the website you used? Do you remember ANY of the special chars? Do you remember ANY of the numbers? etc...

great. thanks that helps. I have a fairly powerful rig and I have some custom software I made to make it a little quicker. If you are 100% sure it's 8 chars, I estimate i can find the password within a year. So hopefully I'll be back in touch with you to claim the reward!

Wow. That is really impressive! Unless I'm totally off the mark here, 62^8 = 218 trillion combinations which puts you at 0.59 trillion combinations a day if you're going to crack that in a year. From my own observations, that puts your rig at the equivalent of 280 x RTX 3080 TI's, which has you pulling enough power to light up your entire neighborhood, and then some.

btcrecover apparently gives false positives. I am now using some other custom software which is 4000 times faster. @BitcoinPasswordNet | www.bitcoinpassword.net if anyone needs help to find their lost bitcoin wallet password.

Thank you!

Hi, if you still needed wallet password recovery contact me on email - [email protected] I have a lot of experience. I guarantee success. All the best.
