Empty letterboxes with awesome master

I've not investigated, but with awesome master I am seeing empty (grey) letterboxes, where the actual letters are missing.

Please let me know in case you cannot reproduce it, and I'll check further.

I just tried the latest awesome master The letterboxes are normal with letter.

my awesome version:

awesome v3.5.2-915-gf7bbcf1 (The Fox) • Build: Nov 16 2015 18:48:41 for x86_64 by gcc version 5.2.0 (dccf87@gqlinux) • Compiled against Lua 5.3.1 (running with Lua 5.3) • D-Bus support: ✔

Maybe try with different font.
