Varying amounts of delay between input changes and changes going to the arduino

I'm using a M5StickC Plus and after following the video tutorial/read-me I got it working however there seems to be a random amount of delay between swapping inputs in vMix and when I see it come through the Arduino. Sometimes its pretty quick (1 second or better) others it can take up to 30 seconds.

WIFI signal says -49dBm (strong) where I am right now. If I stand directly in front of my AP I can get it to -13 but there's still a random delay.

Tried it both unplugged and plugged in for power (to a charging brick, not my PC)

I'm using the latest release (2.4.1)
