[Bug]: Keyboard does not consistently appear when selecting crossword clues in the Editions app

What happened?
A user reported that tapping a clue in the crossword does not always surface the keyboard; they sometimes have to tap the solution grid to trigger it instead. They also noted the clue direction (i.e. across/down) occasionally switches unexpectedly after typing begins.
User details
- Device: iPad Air 5th Gen (WiFi + Cellular)
- iOS: 18.4.1 (22E252)
- App Version: 11.5.25.1100 – 0728884da0

Findings by User Help
- Could reproduced the keyboard issue in Browserstack (iPad Air 13, iOS 18) - see attached video
- Keyboard did not appear after selecting Across 1 and 7, but did for Across 8
- Could not reproduce the clue direction switching, user has been asked to provide a screen recording and ticket will be updated with this recording if they provide it
Acceptance Criteria
- Tapping a clue reliably surfaces the keyboard without needing to tap the grid
- Direction of the clues remain consistent unless changed by the user
- Behaviour is consistent on iPad devices running iOS 18+

Limited, it's likely causing some frustration for those affected but they can still complete the game
Another user (iPad 10th Generation, iOS 18.3.2, same app version) has reported needing to tap clues multiple times before the keyboard appears to User Help. Behaviour is consistent with the original report and suggests that the issue affects multiple devices on iOS 18+. They've also reported the issue persists after reinstall.
