waitmotion question

How does the cmd waitmotion work when it finds motion? Is there any reason to put a delay in the script while motion is true? I had to put 5-10 second delays when motion is false because deepstack or agent dvr have a delay somewhere and won't report as off to my motions sensors without this delay.

If the delay is not needed what is the interval during motion? I have a room in the house that is a "throughway" and trying to figure out the timeframe someone needs to be in the room before the light turns on. I want to set a wait for trigger in HA and knowing the interval would assist me lol.
