exclude partially broken in 0.7.9

• exclude is partially broken in 0.7.9

Expected behaviour

• continue working as it was

What is happening instead?

• excluded directories are shown at top level
• when i click on them i see an error that they are excluded from the index

Additional context

• revert to 0.7.8 works
• excluded directories are never shown

How to reproduce?

• try exclude demo, nothing special about my setup
