grml-live-remaster no longer working with recent ISOs

Forwarding bug report from IRC:

grml-live-remaster seems to be old and broken (still using aufs, though everything was switched to overlayfs)

Reporting here to not forget about it.

Watching -- as the Debian 11 "bullseye" has just been released, it might be a good time to revisit this issue.
