Signing the Application to get rid of Windows Defender Smart Screen Warnings

@grayfallstown Can this issue be resolved by signing the app or is it another problem?

Signing the application does help as it allows to 'build up reputation' with the windows defender smart screen stuff.

Signing the application with a self signed certificate does not have this effect.

Costs for a code signing certificate acknowledged by microsoft:

digicert: €639 per year verisign: $396.61 per year.. and that is a reseller discount price

I did not look if there is something cheaper out there, as cheaper would still be way out of bounds of what I want to invest into a non-profit open source application.

@cojarbi Can you do me a favor and send me a screenshot of that message when installing Chia Plot Status? I would like to add a section to the readme explaining this but I do not get this message anymore as my Windows learned that I trust my own code.

Yeah certificates are expensive, but i think the community can help pay the cost

Thank you for the screenshots. Yes this is caused by unsigned code.

Would be great, but the donations I've got so far combined are not anywhere near that costs.

I have learned from other project is that people want to donate for a specific sign, even though there is nothing more specific than the actual project but they gather it’s already free so the don’t feel any obligation to it, but “upgrades” once they taste the candy they will pay.

My suggestion add a big neon banner (lol) on the top of the readme “ receiving donation for windows certification not prevent etc etc” and then put the total and update when getting donation for it.
