The login screen does not work, startup sound is also missing.
im running chicago 95 on kali linux, kali linux is running on the disk, no virtual machines. everything works alright, except for the login screen. its still kali linux themed and it doesnt change into chicago 95, there is also no startup sound or any kind of system sounds, i reinstalled using the python installer, didnt do anything.
I'm using mint and i'm having the same issues, Can't even install the login screen and there's no startup sound lol.
trying to install the webkit installer with just sudo apt-get install lightdm lightdm-webkit-greeter gives me Unable to locate package lightdm-webkit-greeter

Using Garuda Linux Broadwing on Linux LTS 6.12.17 here, rockin an i5-1145G7 w/ 16GB DDR4. I can't use lightdm-webkit-greeter as it doesn't exist for my distro; I have to use lightdm-webkit2-greeter, which keeps crashing the greeter (at best) and stops LightDM dead in its tracks at boot (at worst). I can however do a TTY login and startx from TTY; however, when it crashes the greeter, I cannot. I have to reload a snapshot to be able to access the TTY login, at which point I just revert to my original configurations. I tried pretty much everything I could think of (using webkit2 instead of webkit in the file, disable biometrics to avoid interference, try running it dry with lightdm --test, manually verifying the integrity of my files, running fc-cache -fv in case it's the font [it wasn't], a complete reinstallation of lightdm-webkit2-greeter, a complete reinstallation of lightdm, dracut-rebuild, setting it as a fallback theme, full system update [as I'm on a rolling release distro, it can happen often], boot into a different kernel [Hardened 6.12.17] and of course RTFM) and nothing seems to be able to fix it. For now, I'm stuck using the stock Garuda slick greeter, which is functional but doesn't fit the entire aesthetic. Some icons are also broken, but that will be for a different issue, I reckon.
I am going to try it in a VM to see if something can be done about this, like a bypass, a workaround or a fix. However, I don't think the issue is with my config, as I've been using it as my daily driver for a good 2 years now. Let me know what logs you need to see, I will, with redactions wherever necessary, provide them.
im on a dual core intel celeron iron potato with 8db ddr4 running on kali linux, i've tried things like updating lightdm webkit2 greeter and straight up reinstalling and relaunching the whole thing, it didnt seem to work. im new to this whole thing so i dont know much, but from what it appears it seems that the chicago 95 themed lightdm greeter simply doesnt exist in the package. HOWEVER, i managed to just download an mp3 file of the windows 95 startup sound and make it so that it plays whenever i turn on the machine. i dont have any biometrics setted up, so i dont think its my fingerprint sensors doing anything to stop lightdm greeter from loading, actually i only downloaded kali on this machine very recently in hopes of making this machine usable again, seeing how it is so slow when running on windows 11. i cannot recreate your scenario with a VM or a different kernel because of some device limitations i got on me right now. let me know if you find a fix
It's recommended to switch to SDDM and Chicago95 SDDM theme. Check here: https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95/pull/386
The package lightdm-webkit-greeter is outdated and no longer available in many Linux distributions, and the current Chicago95 LightDM theme lacks accuracy and polish.
