npm package resolution hanging forever

Looks like the package resolution is currently getting stuck while resolving dependencies

REPRO:

> nvm use 18
Now using node v18.5.0 (npm v8.12.1)

mkdir /tmp/test-graphql-faker-deps
cd  /tmp/test-graphql-faker-deps
npm init 
npm i graphql-faker --verbose

hangs forever for me:

npm timing idealTree:node_modules/graphql-faker Completed in 2ms

yarn seems to work fine on the other hand.
