Certain ui elements don't work with local server

I followed the directions to compile and run locally inside of a docker container (npm run serve). The editor can create new files and successfully run them but certain ui elements like examples don't work. Any pointers on how to get this working? I don't see any relevant errors in the console when I click on the button.
