Target Release Date should be ~ Q1 2026 with first milestone release Jan/Feb 2026

@jamesfredley @codeconsole @jdaugherty ,

How realistic do you see this release date being for Grails 8? I understand that Boot 3 is expected to EOL in June 2026 or thereabouts, so do you think there will be a Grails 8 GA reasonably close to that to avoid support issues?

Spring Boot 4.0.0 will be released between Nov 17-30 2025. Work on Grails 8 will start after that, although some may occur beforehand. Spring Boot 4.0.0 and Spring Framework 7.0.0 will be a big upgrade. Hibernate 6.6 or 7 could be the largest effort, if the current workaround with 5.6 no longer works.

My guess is that Grails 8 GA will be ready in Q1 2026 and close to 100% chance before Jun 30 2026.
