Merge RepSeP files

Open TheChymera opened this issue 8 years ago • 3 comments

Would you be interested in merging the RepSeP PythonTeX files into PythonTeX proper?

I came to the conclusion that it's a poor design choice to track exclusively PythonTeX-related functionality in RepSeP, not least of all because it makes the distribution very weird. I could write yet another tiny package to sit in between RepSeP demo documents and PythonTeX, but that level of splitting things up will make distribution and dependency management harder for a lot of users.

I would be interested in merging at least some of the functionality, especially once the new code execution core is ready. Unfortunately, I don't have time to look into merging properly at present.

@gpoore I have recently separated some of the RepSeP functionality into a separate package (so that it can be provided per-system and doesn't require boilerplate across all articles): https://github.com/TheChymera/repsep_utils/

Perhaps this part of RepSeP could be a good candidate for upstreaming? Btw, it's overall quite stable (well, ok, right now there's this: https://github.com/gpoore/pythontex/issues/170 but this is the exception, I swear! XD ) and serves as an excellent manuscript template in both my old and new labs.

I'm still interested in improving utilities and also dependency tracking. Unfortunately, the coronavirus and other events have significantly reduced the time I can devote to PythonTeX and other projects, so it may be a while before I can work on this again.
