Sony Camera Manual Focus Enhancement

Sony cameras like the A7R4 manual focus works with Gphoto2/Libphoto2 however you can only move the focus in or out from 1 to 7 steps. If it would be possible to have Gphoto2 break larger moves down into moves less than 7 steps several programs that use libphoto2 would actually be able to work. Is this feasible? I don't think it will impact any applications that use libphoto2.
