Emoji selection produces error message

When selecting an emoji, the AJAX response from a server is HTTP 200 with only a short JSON response: {"status": "error"}. This appears to be the case whether or not the user is logged in. Is that by design?

It looks like I left out the part where it gives [edit: should give] a success status. :)
