I see the same (non-blank background) in certain apps on mac (Element, VS Code). It seems to be the wrong character to use, see https://stackoverflow.com/questions/53024626/why-is-emacs-displaying-unicode-character-braille-pattern-blank-as-a-non-blank-c.
It's an upstream bug in drawille.
Change this line to row.append(" ") to fix. I'll make a PR when I find the time.
