Feature: Re-hire laid off engineers, maintain repository
According to ABC's first quarter status report:

Unfortunately, Gemini cannot accurately fart out a lat-lng for an address or give me directions.
Maybe the Google Maps API team should be given some resources to maintain an SDK for one of its most popular APIs in one of the most popular languages, before developers are forced to move to other services?
Alternatively: archive this repo and be clear that it is unsupported and developers should look into httpx with the REST API instead.
Huge +1. One of the world’s largest mapping services, yet its official tooling for the most popular programming language is practically abandoned. When I first discovered this, it felt like a bad joke.

And to be fair, we can just use httpx and directly call the REST API, but if that's the official way to go about it in Python then Google should just archive this repo.
Community members are opening PRs and trying to give Google free labor, and the team behind this (if the team still exists at all) doesn't even have the resources to review the PRs.
I'm the original author. This is unfortunate to see. They really don't have anyone to even archive it?
