Based on https://github.com/googlefonts/ibarrareal/commit/e19809fb6b310023f825c887a5b403cbcb3eff52

And adding a sources/config.yaml file:

sources:
  - IbarraRealNova.designspace

gftools-builder sources/config.yaml results in this, which looks like a builder bug:

Running gftools gftools-0.9.80.dev1+g4be0ca6d (installed from latest git revision: 4be0ca6dff317be67f626be376e5ee9799bd5c2e)

Confirmed, this should skip discrete axes. (I think.)

OK, this is a bigger issue - the builder doesn't support DS5 designspaces with multiple variable fonts, because fontmake doesn't know which one we are trying to build and we currently don't have the plumbing to tell it which one; and adding that plumbing just for DS5 fonts would be a complete pain in the neck and interfere with the "split italic" stuff.

I don't know the answer, and with the future of both fontmake and gftools-builder in flux, I'm not sure how much sense it makes to invest in working the answer out.
