Enable selection of multiple sources in the source list

Open mrk-z opened this issue 1 year ago • 5 comments

In the left panel in the axis tab, it'd be helpful to be able to select multiple sources and then perform the same action to them (for example, delete, turn on/off multi-source editing, etc.)

Currently if we want to delete multiple sources, we'd need to click between the source and the "-" button for each source. Also when we want to turn on multi-source editing for multiple sources, it's easy to actually select a source rather than clicking on the pencil icon, which would cancel out all the previous pencil icons we have turned on.

The selected source is what we see in the canvas. What should a multiple source selection even mean for the canvas? Conceptually, this is problematic.

I think this is more just in the source list in the left panel, so that we can perform the same action to multiple sources at once.

I updated the title of the issue.

I understand that, but still, the selection of the source list is what determines the location that you see in the canvas. You see a selected source, you know which source you're looking at in the canvas. Once there is a multiple selection, this can no longer be true.

Maybe there could be an additional "selection" mode in the source list, and once activated we can select multiple sources without actually opening up the source in the canvas.

Like in many photo apps, when you browse photos in the grid/photostream view and click on a photo, it would just open up the photo. But you can activate a "select multiple" mode, to stay in the grid view and select multiple photos at once (the selected photos would have a check mark), and then perform actions to the group of selected photos like deleting, sending them via messages, etc.

Depending on how we choose to tackle this, this may relate to #1032.
