Page up/down with selection mode

If you have text selected and you press page up/down, everything in between the old cursor position and the new one becomes selected. Is this a bug or a feature?

It's a cover/workaround for a bug.

Desired results

• with text selected pressing page down should deselect the existing selection
• with text selected pressing shift + page down should extend the selection a 'page' down

Problem: I haven't gotten shift + page up/down to work consistently.

Workaround: have page down act like shift + page down was intended to act like.

Having shift + page up/down work, would be great. I'm open to other workaround ideas if the desired behavior continues to be elusive.

It works on my Ubuntu 16.04 when I try shift + pageup/pagedown. I am using the standard ubuntu terminal. I think mine is GNOME Terminal 3.18.3.
