Issue on Samsung Galaxy tab S11 - Blurred camera on ARCore/scene Viewer (Android)

Open smontanarella-dsy opened this issue 2 months ago • 0 comments

Product: ARCore Component: ARCore / Scene Viewer (Android) Severity: S2 – Major functionality broken on a supported flagship tablet Reproducible: Always

Environment

Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 wifi

OS: Android 16, One UI 8 (as shipped on Tab S11)

Google Play Services for AR (ARCore) version: 1.50.251670093

Browser: Chrome, Samsung Browser, edge

Network/Permissions: Camera + Motion granted

Description Launching AR from the web component results in a blurred camera background while the 3D model renders and tracks correctly. The effect looks like a strong defocus/low-resolution camera feed. Happens consistently on Galaxy Tab S11; same code works as expected on other ARCore devices. A similar problem has been reported by other developers for Tab S11 recently.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Open Chrome on Galaxy Tab S11.

  • Navigate to Model Viewer AR demo:

  • Grant camera permissions and enter AR.

  • Observe the live camera background: it appears blurred/low-res while 3D content is sharp and tracking.

Expected Result Normal full-resolution camera feed in AR (as on other ARCore-supported devices), with 3D content composited on top.

Actual Result Camera feed is visibly blurred; 3D content appears fine. Reproducible 100%.

Frequency 100% on affected device.

Workarounds Tried

  • Updating Google Play Services for AR to latest available version (Oct 2025) – no change.
  • Restarting device, clearing Chrome and Scene Viewer data – no change.
  • Different models and builds – no change.
