To add to this I'd love the above functionality but also an in-game method to show what mob drops an item, the venture level of that drop and for ShB/EW (and beyond??) the gemstone vendor/cost.

This is currently being worked on over in electr0sheep/ItemVendorLocation which is in the main Dalamud repo's testing release channel. It doesn't appear to be fully functional with script items at least but for most items it is working (this bug appears to just be a data-set issue as it works for most everything else).
