This an useful addon and one of the reasons why I stick to anki 2.0. Since anki 2.0 will stop syncing next year, could you please adapt this addon to anki 2.1?

I personally preferred the style of Glutanimate's Internal References plugin, so I forked the repo and attempted to update it to 2.1 myself, albeit with a few bugs. Here is the link to the AnkiWeb plugin, and here's the GitHub repo
