General performance issues under Anki 2.1

Open glutanimate opened this issue 6 years ago • 1 comments

There seems to be a noticeable slowdown in most actions performed within SVG-Edit (e.g. moving shapes around, resizing them, etc.). This is likely a side-effect of the migration to QtWebEngine. I'm not sure whether there's anything we can do about this, so I'm marking this issue report as low-priority for now and holding off on looking into it until most other 2.1-specific regressions have been fixed.

It might be worth investigating whether more recent versions of SVG-Edit than the one shipped with the add-on so far (v2.6) perform better on chromium-based renderers. Two major caveats with this:

  1. SVG-Edit v2.7 and v2.8 actually seemed to be slower on Anki 2.0
  2. The changes performed to the bundled version of SVG-Edit over the years are quite extensive and would be difficult to port to a new upstream release

So it might be best to set this issue aside entirely for now.

Seems like it doesn't make much sense to investigate this further until SVG-Edit 3.0.0 hits stable. Once the release is out, we can look into whether or not upgrading yields any significant performance benefits.
