Bug description

Sometime automatic inventory of monitors turns people in trouble. This happens when monitors manufacturers have no respect to established standards and the agent fails to report the expected monitor serial after reading a poorly designed monitor EDID bloc. For such kind of manufacturer, we started to develop the reporting of an ALTSERIAL entry in the inventory. Actually FusionInventory agent and GLPI agent supports this reporting. We can easily modify the agent to exchange SERIAL and ALTSERIAL inventory entries but, as we can't trust manufacturers, this is actually done for only few manufacturers and even only on some models. A nice feature for GLPI 10 would be to also show the ALTSERIAL entry when it is available in an inventory. But it would also be nice to have the availability for GLPI admin users to decide the ALTSERIAL for a given model of a given manufacturer if the right serial to use when linking a monitor to a computer. If such a feature is developed in GLPI, the agent wouldn't have to be updated to switch SERIAL and ALTSERIAL.

Feature request summary:

  1. Show "altserial" of monitor when available as "Other serial" or "Alternate serial"
  2. Add an option on monitor model to:
    1. select "serial" or "altserial" as serial to link monitor to computer,
    2. automatically exchange "serial" and "altserial" when displaying so the expected serial is also shown

Hi, I'm still hoping the GLPI team could be interested by such a feature.

I would love this feature to be implemented

A very necessary function. We have a lot of monitors that have a problem with serial numbers.
