as UI improvement it has been suggested to make it visible only on user click implementing a simple "details" show/hide button.

It isn't better to put a constraint on the size of the description, improving it a bit like a structured card (Name, Website, Country, Languages, Description) ?
I agree, but what you are proposing is a different ticket.
what i'm proposing is a short term fix for the currenty situation while you is a good suggestion for a strong enhancement.
can you open it? probably it's good to open two different tickets:
- evaluate a simple improval of receiver card with the receiver fieldyou are proposing (medium term)
- evaluating a node maintainer configurable receiver card with custom field (very long term))

A quicker fix for this ticket could be to define a maximum size of description field, so that's not possible to break css layout
