highlight function only called on init?

Since #129, highlight can be a function. I noticed however that this function is not called as often as the provider, making it relevant only on file load, not on file edits for example (vim.bo.modified).

Is this a bug or a known limitation? I'm setting up my galaxyline and I'd like to avoid relying on highlight links in providers.
