There is an official support for lurch on openSUSE Tumbleweed: # zypper in libpurple-plugin-lurch

And there is development project repository for openSUSE Leap: For example, Leap 15.0:

# zypper ar -f https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/pidgin/openSUSE_Leap_15.0/ pidgin
# zypper ref
# zypper in libpurple-plugin-lurch

Sure, can you just make a pull request? Against the dev branch would be best, and you can probably just edit it through GitHub. There's a section for installing from a repo, somewhere there is probably good.
