Multi file queue
First off, this software is a blessing. Makes transcribing so easy and almost fun.
So I have to transcribe multiple files, all with information in the filename that I would need to identify each transcription with so combining all of the audio recordings is not viable. Would it be a good idea to implement an audio queue? Dragging and dropping each file gets quite fatiguing. I'm talking about multiple 20 second long recordings here.
This is for psychology research, so thank you for helping science!
Thank you, I find it interesting how people are using Parlatype and what for. I already expected such a feature request but that's not super easy to implement, so I can't say when it will come.
Do you think of a gapless continuation at the end of one file to the next one? Or with some key or button to jump to the next file? Would it be necessary to go back to a previous file?
There's no rush for this feature at all! I'm just suggesting it so that people who have similar uses in the future can use it. I have accepted that I'll have a do a ton of dragging and dropping for the next few months haha.
Gapless playback isn't a necessity for me personally, but the files should play in a row without requiring user involvement. Gapless couldn't hurt if it doesn't take too much effort, I'm sure someone will have a use for that.
Let me try to brainstorm what this feature would entail. Take or remove what you see fit:
-
A forward and previous skip button in the interface. They would have to be differentiated from the current 10 sec fast-forward buttons. I would suggest replacing the current skip icons with fast-forward ones.
-
A list of files to come (and that have been played, like a music queue). Should be double clickable to directly play that file. It might be helpful if the order is changeable instead of just being sorted by file name (but I personally don't need this feature).
-
Keyboard shortcuts for next and previous would be great.
I definitely think a previous button is necessary if playback is continuous (if not gapless) because it might be frustrating to add the files again if you miss out on the last part of an audio file and it starts playing the next.
I met Parlatype recently and it's amazing ... I think adding a queue list (sidebar) and support for playlist would improve the functionality of parlatype, being functions with a very standard UX that adjust to common workflows.
Note: I usually work in social research, analyzing many types of media, so I learned to organize audios in chronological, thematic, interviewer, etc. order. with playlist that can easily be shared with other researchers, compatible with any audio player.
