Unable to exit selection mode
Installation and version
How did you install Parlatype? I discovered parlatype through OMG ubuntu and followed the instruction at the bottom : http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/06/parlatype-transcribe-audio-app-linux
Your desktop environment
- What's your distro? Ubuntu 17.04
- What's your desktop environment? Gnome 3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1
Issue
-
What is not working as expected? When I inadvertently click in the waveform, it's impossible to complete the selection or stop it. I have read in the documentation that pressing ESC after doing a left click in the waveform should exit the selection but it doesn't. The selection mode is still enabled when I quit and relaunch the program.
-
Does it happen all the time? Yes
-
Did it work in the past (a regression)? I haven't used the program long enough to tell
-
What steps are needed to reproduce it? I'm not entirely sure because I never do it intentionally but clicking in the waveform should trigger that.
-
If you start Parlatype from terminal, is there any error output? No
Other information
I would love to be able to disable the selection mode entirely. Also, it might be good to add a button to toggle the mode / remove the selection.
Thank you for your bug report!
The way it's intended to work is the following: Clicking with the right mouse button you can set and move the cursor. Clicking with the left mouse button you can make a selection (that's like in Blender for example). If something is selected and you click once somewhere else (just a single click without moving the cursor) the selection goes away. It should work if you click once inside the selection or outside. I noticed it doesn't work if you click at or near the border of the selection.
Pressing ESC works only if the waveform is in keyboard focus. If you press TAB or (Shift + TAB) several times, keyboard focus will go through all elements including the waveform. Unfortunately on some GTK+ versions it's less visible than on others.
Does that work for you? Would it help if there would be an option to change left and right mouse button behaviour, i.e. left mouse button for setting the cursor, right mouse button for selections?
I have tried to reproduced but I wasn't able to. Usually, it happens while I'm using it and I don't intent on selecting anything.
The problem I have encountered several times is that the selection is started but clicking (it doesn't matter where) never finishes it and the program is unusable in this state.
I'm using Parlatype to create the show notes of a podcast I'm co-hosting and I will use it again in around 2 weeks. I will try to use TAB or Shift-TAB and I will let you know if this fixes my problem.
In any case, thank you very much for this program, it's very good and it helped me save a lot of time already :)
