It is possible to insert a link to another Cherrytree filr "file.ctx" with the possibility of the link open in new instance or open in same window? Thank you!

Menu -> Edit -> Insert/Edit Link -> File

You will have to tell your operating system that the file ending you use should be opened with Cherrytree and not with the SQLite DBBrowser.

@xypron nice trick. Thanks. It would be even nicer if I could link (shortcut) right to a specific node in that foreign instance. I assume this is not possible as of today, but it would be a really useful feature to me because I have several instances and I'm using one CT-instance/file as my main instance.

A workaround I just thought of, is to create a page (in the foreign instance) with links and add this page as a favorite page for quick access. That can help in the meantime in certain situations

BTW. general remark for those who don't know this. On Linux Mint (and Windows) changing the file association works with the "open with" function of the File Browser (Windows Explorer or Nemo)
