The same file can be opened only in one tab

Would it be possible to open the same file only in one tab?

This is particularly annoying if you use any type of navigation pages, such as a Homepage. Everytime you click on a link it will open a new tab with the file. At minimum this should be an option that the user can turn on if he would like to.
