LaTex rendering doesn't support newcommands
This doesn't render
$$\newcommand{\lra}[1]{ \left( #1 \right) } A=\frac{1}{2}\lra{A + A^T}+\frac{1}{2}\lra{A - A^T}$$
see $$\newcommand{\lra}[1]{ \left( #1 \right) } A=\frac{1}{2}\lra{A + A^T}+\frac{1}{2}\lra{A - A^T}$$
Replacing the newcommand with
$$ A=\frac{1}{2}\left( A + A^T\right)+\frac{1}{2}\left( A - A^T\right)$$
will render the equation as expected
$$ A=\frac{1}{2}\left( A + A^T\right)+\frac{1}{2}\left( A - A^T\right)$$
I'm really surprised about the many LaTeX rendering issues in markdown. In comparison rendering LaTeX in jupyter notebooks on github works very good.
bumping this because I'm interested as well :) it works without problems on hackmd, for example
