Screen flickering/ starts scrolling down from the beginning

Open arvindf216 opened this issue 3 months ago • 16 comments

Describe the bug

Hi, the CLI tool works well if I have a few messages (<10) in the conversation, but once the size of the conversation increases, many issues start to occur:

  1. The screen starts flickering and duplicating output.
  2. Whenever I send a new request, the screen moves to the top and then starts scrolling down on its own.

These issues have also been experienced with Gemini CLI before (its GitHub issues page is full of these kinds of queries).

Is there any available quick fix for this?

Thanks for the report! We're looking into a variety of flicking bugs and working to improve it! Unfortunately I don't have any quick fixes for you right now

Yeah same issue here too. I guess is something tricky cause it happens in other AI CLI tools too. However I could say that Copilot is the most soft in that issue, at least terminal doesn't crash like with others.

I'm not sure if it helps, but I created a screen recording video of the flickering scrolling misbehavior that I get sporadically:

I have the same issue after the latest update.

I have had the same issue for a while. Initially I thought it only happens when copilot trying to run a long inline script and the long output causes it, but now it seems like as long as history will reach the bound to truncate it happens

same here

same here, sometimes typing on the keyword may stop it, or just wait, but most of the time you need to reset it losing what you were processing in that moment.

Folks, I see in https://github.com/github/copilot-cli/issues/239#issuecomment-3385906513 that ctrl+r has been hit to expand the recent timeline entries. When the rest of you are seeing this flickering occurring, do y'all also have recent timelines expanded? Is anyone seeing this with the default behaviour where the timeline is collapsed?

williammartin avatar Nov 10 '25 16:11 williammartin

@williammartin for me is indistinct. Either expanded or collapsed sometimes happens. I noticed that it happens more frequently when performing documents creation after manually approve it.

Sometimes it shows a resume in the chat like

EOF …… content…. EOF

When I approve it then it starts flickering.

@williammartin for me it happens regardless of crtl+r. For me it happens consistently after any med-long run. I suspect parallel tasks may be something the dev team can start with.

Still present in 0.0.363 Commit: 66416ad

Mine is like there are basically two images and it randomly displays one or the other.
