Add project-wide "Open in VSCode" and "Show in Explorer" buttons for quick access

Open DrafaKiller opened this issue 1 month ago • 2 comments

GitButler already includes "Open in VSCode" and "Show in Explorer" options in the top-left dropdown menus. However, these actions are somewhat hidden in the UI, requiring extra clicks and navigation to access, and are less satisfying in general.

It would be very helpful to have project-wide buttons for these actions prominently displayed in the main project view.

Motivation

  • Reduces friction for frequently accessed projects;
  • Saves time for developers switching between multiple projects;
  • Improves discoverability for users who may not notice the dropdown menu options.

Demonstration

Here's what I would expect from the design:

Thanks so much for the suggestion, and for mocking it up as well!

This seems like a very useful feature, being able to open the project like that! This way, GitButler could act as launcher even.

It's notable that it maybe application dependent on how to bring them up with a particular project, but that's certainly something that can be implemented.

CC @krlvi and @PavelLaptev to see if it's something we can have.

this is indeed a useful thing to have - not sure of the design itself, but when we have time we can look into adding this functionality somewhere
