MailChimp

I sent edition 19 using MailChimp but I did not use the template that Nicola had saved. I tried it but it looked like the result had lost some formatting. So instead I just used a new template where I just copied the HTML from the web page (https://git.github.io/rev_news/2016/09/14/edition-19/).

The main problem is that the background was white instead of brown. But otherwise the formatting looked better.

It would be nice to find a better solution to have both a good background and proper formatting.

I thought it looked pretty nice, so I'm all for just doing it this way in the future.

What I would like would be to better automate this process. The manual extra effort is always a bit annoying to remember and to do.

Yeah, it would be better if it could be automated. Extracting the interesting HTML could be automated with a simple script. We just need to take everything between two <div> tags. After that I don't know if MailChimp has APIs that could be used to automate the rest.

With the "Git Rev News v2.0.5" template, the content is now the one and only editable area, filled with a tiny "marker paragraph". Back using templates ... step towards automation. Feel free to ask me about "fun with mailchimp" at the Git Merge conference :-).

Great! Thanks again for automating this! Yeah, let's discuss it at the Git Merge and FOSDEM!
